108 Lotus Seeds beads masterfully strung on a durable string cord by our very own mala maker, Sumchok. Lotus seeds are very important in Asia as they are used widely for many purposes whether it be religious or healing, these seeds come from the genus nelumbo a species of plant. Over time the seeds will change color due to oil and water, and will eventually grow, shattering into many pieces Due to the growing following of Buddhism and meditation more and more malas are being sought after.
1. Lotus Seed
The lotus represents spiritual growth and overcoming obstacles, similar to the lotus flower which struggles within murky swamps and marshes in order to bloom. Many Deities in Buddhism and Hinduism are seen depicted sitting on top of this beautiful flower (or with the flower nearby) meditating, connecting the lotus with enlightenment or spirituality.
A Mala is a strung together collection of a 108 beads and a larger guru bead. It's purpose is to help focus during meditation and count mantras. It can be worn as a necklace or wrapped around the wrist.
